Artistic Education

Andie’s artistic journey began when she painted passion projects which would only be admired by her closest family and friends. She continued to paint for years as she studied and travelled all over the world as an international school teacher. As an educator, Andie’s artworks are technically executed with precision and detail, and are characterised by her travels and experiences in education, as well as her strong connection with the outdoors. With a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University in Melbourne and a Master’s Degree in Education and International Development from University College London in the UK, the aim of Andie’s art is to engage audiences in not only considering, but embracing diverse perspectives that fine art can offer, and introducing a newfound way of looking at the world; namely Andie’s way.

Art Experience

Andie’s artistic skill and technique independently developed in Manila, the Philippines, where she lived and taught for five years from 2017-2022. Andie took part in her first collaborative art exhibition in 2018, showcasing six original watercolour artworks in a series titled Facets of the Feminine. In 2019, Andie was invited to paint for the environmentally conscious hotel group Eco Hotels to complete a mural raising awareness on plastic pollution entitled Hope Within a Lost Sea, which was featured on national television in The Philippines. She then continued to paint private commissions for independent clients as she travelled, studied and taught in Colombia, Australia, London, The Philippines and the Cayman Islands.

Grand Cayman

After a lot of persuasion and encouragement as her confidence as an artist grew, Andie finally took the plunge and created an instagram account for her art under the alias laartistalau when she moved to Grand Cayman in 2022. She started posting art pieces that she created, inspired by the pristine and uncanny natural elements of Cayman which were discovered by the renowned artist Carlos V Garcia. Carlos invited Andie to showcase a number of her pieces in his art collective space the Carlos V Garcia Art Gallery, and this was the start of Andie’s dive into the art industry. In 2024, Andie took part in her first official exhibition during Cayman Artweek 2024, showcasing seven pieces of her art from her archival work created in Australia, The Philippines, and made in Cayman.

Currently, Andie is based in Cayman as a watercolour and ink artist. She continues to display her pieces at Carlos V Garcia Art Gallery, prints at the Kennedy Gallery and at her independent space. She has over twenty pieces of original artworks for sale.
